Criminal Background Checks are to be performed on temporary appointments if the individual is to be employed for more than six (6) calendar months, even if they will only be working a few hours a week. Additionally, background checks are necessary for employees on temporary appointments moving to full- or part-time classified positions.
The policy does state that background checks are exempted on temporary employees to be employed for six months or less. However, if an individual is to be employed for less than six (6) calendar months, is then terminated, and soon after reappointed into a temporary position which basically extends their temporary position past a six month time frame, then a criminal background check will be done.
If you think your temporary appointment will be hired for more than six (6) months, please let us do a background check, so that we comply with Kansas Board of Regents and KSU Policy. The policy exists because Kansas State University is committed to maintaining a safe environment for its students, employees and visitors.

On-Line Enrollment continues through October 31. For employees who are non-tobacco users and who want the reduced premium of a non-tobacco user, they must go through the on-line enrollment process to indicate their status, even if they do not want to make other changes to their health plans. Those who do not will default to a tobacco user, resulting in higher premiums. This cannot be "fixed" once enrollment is closed. Employees are encouraged to complete the enrollment process early to avoid the rush of website traffic that occurs in the last days.
HR staff will hold one last health insurance information session for employees on Thursday, October 23, 2008, from 3-4 p.m. in Cardwell Hall, Room 101.
We have received word that Geary County Community Hospital is back in the Blue Cross/Blue Shield network.
Please register employees in advance for new employee orientation. While the occasional walk-in can be accommodated, having employees pre-registered allows us to prepare enough packets of information for employees and set the space accordingly. Registration information is at: http://www.k-state.edu/hr/benefits/orient.htm
