December 14,
2007 Classified Employee Bonus
The Legislature approved a one-time bonus for eligible
classified employees to be included with the December 14, 2007 paycheck. Classified employees (excluding temporary
employees) are eligible for the bonus provided their most recent performance
review rating is at least satisfactory.
Unlike the September 10, 2006
step increase, the legislation authorizing this bonus does not contain the
requirement to have a current review within the preceding 12 months.
Classified employees with a hire date prior to 11/18/07 will be eligible for the
bonus. If a department believes a
probationary employee is performing at a satisfactory level, the department may complete a special
performance review for the employee with a rating of meets expectations or higher in order for the employee to be
eligible. This means that employees in
the classified service who have not yet attained permanent status may receive
the bonus. Departments should complete the Employee Performance
Review Form (PER-47), with the rating box checked and appropriate
signatures included. Supervisors may
include notes indicating the rating is being provided solely for the purpose of
eligibility for the December 14, 2007
bonus. This action will not change the
end of probation date for the employee.
Supervisors will still be required to complete a performance review at the end of probation.
Classified employees hired effective 11/18/07 or later will not be eligible for this
bonus. Employees on extended military or
medical leave are eligible for the bonus.
For these employees, Human Resources staff will return the employee from
leave without pay effective 11/18/07
and place them back on leave without pay effective 12/1/07.
The amount of the bonus is $860 for each eligible full-time
classified employee. Those classified
employees working less than full-time are to receive a pro-rated portion of the
bonus. This determination will be based
on the percentage of FTE. For example,
an employee who is .5 FTE will receive a bonus in the amount of $430. ($860 x .50 FTE)
The memorandum received from the Division of Administration
regarding this bonus refers to bonus payments for unclassified employees as
well as classified. Kansas
State University
unclassified employees fall under the Board of Regents rules and regulations
and are not eligible to receive this bonus.
